Arctic Hut

Protoype of Arctic housing unit, Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, October, 2007

A Nunavut customer came to Covey Island Boatworks with his design because it was essentially an upside down boat, inspired by traditional Inuit practice of turning a summer hunting boat upside down for a winter shelter.

The design called for the kinds of off-grid systems Covey Island Boatworks incorporates in construction as a matter of course.

The owner is testing his prototype by living in it this winter in Rankin Inlet.
